Personally designed and taught by Anthony Wong Chau-sang — recipient of Best Actor honours across Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Taiwan — this course fuses the "Le Jeu" philosophy of legendary French theatre master Philip Gaulier, the in-the-moment technique of celebrated American teacher Sanford Meisner, and Anthony Wong's own three decades of stage and screen experience. This is essential training for any Chinese-language performer.

Application & Selection:
Applicants first submit the online application form along with relevant experience/training materials. CANTOLIVE will conduct an initial review; applicants who meet the basic requirements will be notified to proceed with payment — the CAD $20 registration fee and a 50% tuition deposit. Following this, applications will be assessed for direct admission or an interview may be arranged. Priority consideration is given to professional actors and those with prior performance training. The remaining 50% of tuition is due by September 28.

Instructor Biography:

黃秋生　Anthony WONG

A member of the first graduating class of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and an Honorary Fellow of the Academy, Anthony Wong has built an extraordinary career spanning Chinese-language film, television, and stage, winning Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards a remarkable six times. Often described as a phenomenon of Hong Kong cinema, Wong is that rare, fully-rounded talent who can emerge from a commercial industry and still deliver performances of searing honesty, regardless of the material. In the years ahead, alongside his continuing acting career, Wong has committed himself to giving back to the stage and to teaching, drawing on his influence to bring artists together with the mission of raising the standard of Chinese-language acting and theatre.

Wong trained early in his career under the legendary French theatre master Philip Gaulier, deeply shaped by Gaulier's "Le Jeu" philosophy of play and his clown/bouffon training. He has also studied the Meisner Technique developed by American teacher Sanford Meisner, which emphasizes an actor's instinctive, truthful response to the present moment — a philosophy that echoes Gaulier's own spirit of play. Both traditions share a common thread: stripping away technique to return to acting's most instinctive truth. This Vancouver masterclass marks the first time Wong brings this fusion of two training traditions, shaped by a lifetime of performance experience, to North America — encouraging students to let go of inhibition, take risks, and rediscover the truest instincts of performance through play.

In 2013, Wong founded the independent Hong Kong theatre company DCTheatre, where he has served as Artistic Director ever since, upholding a spirit of "truth, goodness, and beauty" in giving back to the stage and to teaching. Notable productions include Equus (starring Hins Cheung and Charmaine Fong), God of Carnage (starring Sandra Ng and Poon Chan-leung), Speed-the-Plow (starring Jan Lamb and Rosa), and ART (starring Chan Suk-Yi and Chu Pak-hong).

Over a decade ago, Wong won the Hong Kong Drama Award for Best Actor (Tragedy/Serious Drama) for his role in the stage play To Kill or to Be Killed — the very production returning to the screen this autumn as the Vancouver premiere and thank-you screening presented by Hong Kong Theatre Live.
